Divorce. One of the most stressful times in persons life. And second to that is moving home.
But here's why divorce made me a better estate agent…
*Lisa's Story…
The marital home was the final 'asset' they'd fought over and the only winners in all this were the solicitors. The family home needed to be sold, but Lisa was lost in a sea of stress and emotion.
She knew the buyer would see her children's heights drawn onto the kitchen door frame in permanent pen… she knew it needed painting over… but she just saw memories of her children growing over the years.
She knew the front room carpet was old and worn… but she kept seeing the family dogs lounging on the floor, kids surrounding them, toys, arms, legs, paws… chaos everywhere! But happy sharing the space.
She knew a buyer would hate the quirky kitchen island that made the room cramped and dated now…but Lisa saw messy cake baking, spoons being licked and pancakes flipped.
On the valuation I could hear the pain of having to let go in Lisa's voice. I knew the nights she cried, of the fear of the future she felt, of the all consuming emotion and confusion divorce brings.
I'd been there myself. I understood.
Lisa is all of us. Our homes are not a collection of bricks and mortar. This is why we believe empathy belongs at the heart of estate agency. Life experience plays a huge part in understanding our clients emotions, motivations and needs.
In this story, Lisa needed our guidance to sell her family home. But more than anything, she needed support at one of the most challenging times in her life.
