Climate change, insulating your homes...It`s a bit of a hot topic...literally...

But a third of landlords will miss the energy certificate deadline, when the minimum energy efficiency rating for rental properties comes into effect...

In a bid to cut down carbon emissions, from 2025 new tenancies will have to increase to 'Band C' from 'Band E' and by 2028 for existing tenancies.

Some property investors could end up sending their entire annual income on energy improvements if their homes are not up to standard.

A survey of 750 landlords found 35% were not confident their properties would meet the required energy standards in time for the deadline.

Landlords potentially may have difficulty in accessing properties already occupied by tenants, let alone the disruption likely to be caused by the works. And the cost of converting properties to meet the new requirements could be significant.

The £2bn Green Homes Grant scheme launched in September 2020 aims to help homeowners upgrade their homes. The plan provides grants of up to £5,000 to cover the cost of energy efficiency upgrades.

The scheme is not just for Landlords. If you're a homeowner, you too can use a Green Homes Grant voucher towards the cost of installing energy efficient improvements to your home.
