Self worth and personal growth in estate agency...

Date Published 01 November 2021

As you can imagine, being an all female office, talking is one of our strong point.

And we talk about feelings…a lot. Not just ' how are you feeling?.. more like 'how are you feeling, in yourself' type talk. Yep, we can get pretty deep over a cuppa.

And so we started talking about how much we've changed over the past 18 months.

It turns out we are happy. Like really happy inside. And confident. Self assured in a warm and relaxed way. And the reason we were reflecting on this was because we didn't always feel this way.

Self worth is what it's called. And it doesn't come from outside, it comes from within. And for a very long time we relied on outside influences to make us feel good.

Many people link their self-worth with a particular aspect of their life.

For some, it may be their relationships, hobbies or appearance. For others, it may be their possessions or values. For a lot of people, however, their sense of self-worth is based almost entirely on what they do professionally.

Being proud of your job and enjoying your work is rarely a bad thing and in fact, it's something many of us aspire to.

But it's important to remember that there are limitations.

If you become so wrapped up in your ‘work' identity that any setbacks affect your self-worth and mental wellbeing, it can be a major problem.

It's easy to turn 'I'm not good at this aspect of my job' into 'I'm not good enough.

The pandemic was a reflective period for everyone, especially us ladies at Noonan. It made us stop. It took us away from our lives before.

Because when one door closes, however painful and low it makes you feel, another one will always open. And for us, it was the best move we ever made.

The moment you stop defining your self worth by your career, you will feel better all round.
